Ion Magnetic Induction Therapy

1. The PAP Ion Magnetic Induction (IMI) device is an Advanced Electrotherapueutic Device based on Electromagnetic Bioenergy. It is based on Direct Current Unipolar Pulses. The PAP-IMI is an Ultra Fast. Short duration and Athermic, Bipolar, Magnetic and Electrical Pulse Generator, exclusively protected by the OBI 1001764, the USA patent 5,556,418 and the World Wide PCT patent PCT/US93, owned by Dr. Pares T. Pappas, Ph.D.

2. Approvals: Medical Devices Bureau, Health Protection Branch of Canada, file # 168,403 EN 60601 approval for pulsed diathermy, Ministry of industry, Energy and Technology of Greece, file # 1321/94. The device has also been granted a research protocol for AIDS applications by the National Organization of Drugs of Greece The PAP-IMI Device complies with CE and FCC regulations when operated Inside an EMI proof enclosure.

3. The PAP-IMI is absolutely unique in the classification of electromagnetic Energy Devices. It produces the fastest and strongest pulses, has the greatest depth of penetration with better results in less time than other devices in its classification. It also has a broader spectrum of therapeutic application to which other devices have marginal or no effects at all. It appears to be free of adverse side effect since its introduction in 1988.

4. Due to its working principle and heavy-duty technology necessary to simulate lightning, most of its components are not found in the industry, as they are custom and handmade components. Extra care is given to safety, and to its highly insulated parts i.e. its especially low resistance and low impedance conductors. It is non-broadcasting, producing a low impedance and low average induction voltage output of the order of 18 volts across a 30 cm loop by remote mechanical action. There is no electrical contact with the body or any form of material transfer. It is the beneficial electromagnetic field that is generated by the device that enhances the body in so many ways.

5. The PAP-IMI does not compare to any other Bioenergetic, Electrotherapeutic Devices due to its special and uncommon technology, capable of producing the sharp complex magnetic impulses, several orders of magnitude faster than any other known Electrotherapeutic Device It is uniquely modulated by exciting a gaseous plasma, producing enhanced bio-energy with unique therapeutic results. Particularly with extinguishing inflammation, infection and certain tumors with short time and term application.

6. Simply put, the device produces a train of extremely short blasts of very high frequency oscillations by periodically exciting a gaseous plasma chamber at its natural resonant frequency. Special precision circuitry limits each burst, or pulse of oscillations to one microsecond duration by a thyratron-type of control. The nanosecond rise and decay time of each pulse oscillation is so steep that a wealth of third-order harmonics are generated with each pulse, which makes it difficult to characterize the resulting pulse frequency, other than saying it is an effective narrow bi-complex frequency spectrum. The remarkable aspect of this novel plasma-resonance method of generating such pulses of radio frequency energy is the extremely high amplitude (of the order of many kilovolts) they attain, resulting in massive current flow through the low-impedance load circuit. The pulse repetition frequency of the IMI is extremely low, with relatively long intervals between pulses. A variable control circuit limits the output pulses of the IMl for therapeutic application between two and five pulses per second at most.

7. Simplicity of usage is a major feature of the IMI. The therapeutic magnetic pulses pass through all matter except certain metals. The applicator loop is held flat against the clothing or skin of the area to be treated and the start button pressed. The device will begin emitting several popping noises per second (from the arc in the plasma chamber that initiates each pulse) until the technician turns it off after a normal 4-5 minute treatment in any one area. It has been noted that with over 100,000 treatments for a variety of
medical problems no adverse effects or incidents have been reported with patients or technicians exposed to IMI pulses for many hundreds of hours/year.

8. Theory of Operation: All the many types of living cells of the body are in reality tiny electrochemical units. These cells are powered by its inherent battery like trans-membrane mechanism that is continually recharged by the cell's electrochemical metabolic process, which is normally in a closed loop of biological activity.

9. The electrical charge or voltage that across' the membrane of a normal healthy cell varies from about 70 to 100 kilovolts; this is called the Trans Membrane Potential, or (TMP).

10. When a cell is injured, infected, poisoned or deprived of nutrients, energy is lost in reestablishing the TMP balance and often falls to a level where the cell loses its vitality, and struggles to heal it self, proliferate excessively, or dies.

11. The PAP-IMI helps to reestablish the (TMP) by its induced pulsed magnetic field, which converts the sodium to potassium, reduces osmotic pressure, thus the edema and cell size, returning the (TMP) to 70 mV, which promotes normal metabolic function.

Pain Reduction

12. It is first necessary to understand the mechanism of pain transmission to understand how pain blocking can be accomplished. Pain is transmitted along nerve cells as an electric signal, an impulse. The impulse encounters synaptic gaps at intervals. The pain signals must cross the synaptic gap via a chemical release. During quiescent times the nerve cells possess a small trans membrane potential charge (TMP) of approximately -70mV between the inner and outer membranes. When a pain signal arrives it depolarizes the cell raising the potential to +30mV. This opens channels in the membrane, allowing an inflow of ions, which trigger exocytosis (the release of chemicals from the synaptic vesicles) that allows the pain signal to travel along the cell's axon to eventually reach the brain. Once this occurs the nerve cell re-polarizes to its previous level of -70mV.

13. Research done by Warnkes, established that the application of pulsed magnetism has an effect on the quiescent potential of the synaptic membrane. It suggested that the effect is to lower the potential to a hyper polarized level of-90mV. When a pain signal is received it then has to raise the potential to a greater degree in order to release the transmitters, but it will only achieve approximately +1OmV. Since this is well below the threshold necessary to release the chemical transmitters, the pain signal is effectively blocked.

14. A young and healthy cell has a trans-membrane potential on the order of -70 to 100 kilovolts. An aged (mutated), injured or ill cell has a trans-membrane potential considerably lower, as low as 50 kilovolts. A cancer tumor cell has a trans-membrane potential as low as 15 kilovolts. A cancer cell is a cell in electrical difficulty, according to Szent-Gyorgyi, Cone, and others. Cells with a low trans-membrane potential are usually in an inflammatory state and are the source of pain signals. The trans-membrane potential is the measure of the internal bio-energy of a cell. This potential energy of the cell membrane powers the sodium-potassium pump mechanism of the cell, which in turn is responsible for the ion concentration of the cell and the maintenance of the trans-membrane potential. Therefore, low trans-membrane potential and loss of an efficient sodium-potassium pump is the catch 22 for the cell, from which the cell cannot escape when the potential is critically low, unless an external electrical charge is induced within it.

The following are a number of scientifically proven effects of the IMI.
A. An increase of K (potassium) in the serum occurred in 65% of all cases. In the 65% sub group, 100% of them, the pain ceased almost immediately and permanently. In the rest of the cases where there was no increase in K, the pain came back after a few days. This indicates a strong correlation between permanently relieved pain, an increase in K, and PAP-IMI exposures.

B. The K increase ranged from .02 to I m/l maximum, assuming this increase was uniformly distributed in the blood stream of an average of 6 L, during the 5 minutes of treatment, a minimum net increase of 02 to 40 m/gr of new K occurred in the blood after 888 pulses within 5 minutes exposure time over an inflamed area of 20X20 cm'.

C. The fact that no similar systematic increase or decrease was found for Mg, and that K increase was distinctly found in cases of immediate and permanent pain relief indicates that the increase of K in the 65% of the cases were not due to systematic errors in the performed blood analysis.

D. A moderate period of relaxation, 4 to 6 hours duration, followed most all cases.

E. In all cases, there was an immediate reduction of pain, irrespective of the etiology of pain.

F. It is significant to note the fact that in some cases of pain migration from the area of application to a neighboring area was mainly with neuralgic pain cases.

15. The phenomenon of K (potassium) increase within the cell by PAP-IMI exposure is found to be more enhanced, when cells are in a state of edema or inflammation. An inflamed cell is known to contain a higher concentration of Na inside the membrane of the cell. With PAP-IMI treatments a dramatic reduction of edema and inflammation occurs, which indicates a drastic reduction of sodium and a simultaneous increase of K inside the cell. These findings indicate that the IMI is one of the best anti-inflammatory and edema reduction modalities.


The Equation of life: Na + O +energy = K

16. It appears that a continuous nuclear transmutation of Na to K inside the cell occurs by the oxygenation of the Na that changes it to K. This process restores the energy of the living cell by re-establishing the optimal trans-membrane potential.

17. A low energy proliferating cell with limited resources for any reason, i.e. a toxic, anaerobic (non-oxygenated) environment, or because it is surrounded or adjacent to a tumor, lacks the proper circulation. Without the possibility of proper oxygenation, nutrition, metabolism and therefore energy, causes the adjacent cells to have a similar shortage.

18. We can say, proliferating cells in energy crisis, cause a similar "energy crisis" to nearby cells. In other words, the energy crisis of a smaller area of cells is diffused or extended to a broader area, because of the most basic and fundamental principle of physics, the principle of conservation of energy in a limited area.

20. Low trans-membrane potential, increased accumulation of sodium ions inside the cell culminates into inflammation; increase cell volume and osmotic pressure inside the cell resulting in a thinning of the cell membrane and loss of the TMP.

21. Based on the science of cloning cells Dr. Papas has establishes his working hypothesis of the cause of cancer cell proliferation. To clone a cell first they put a cell in a nutritional deprived and stressed state. These conditions cause the cells to multiply more rapidly for survival of the species. The same thing happens when the body is deprived of proper nutrition, nerve conductive energy, oxygen, water and fresh air.

22. The above scenario explains that when the trans-membrane potential is found below -15 mV, the cells have a much greater propensity to proliferate and eventually cause over population, which diffuses the existing energy from the cell and immediate environment to the system. In other words, proliferation is then generalized for the system as a whole with the characteristic of low energy and ischemia for the system itself. We may say, that cells with low energy get into a "panic" state of feverish multiplication, in order to preserve their species by an inherent encoded program in the DNA for survival under the emergency conditions. So, more cells are produced inside or adjacent to the tumor, which is found naturally in a low energy or impoverished conditions. Those new cells will lack even more energy for the same reason. We can see then why the tumor grows and why they diffuses to adjacent tissue, a phenomenon known as "cancer diffusion". The more these "low energy" cells multiply, the greater the need becomes for more energy in that area and in the organism as a whole.

23. It has been well established that the application of accepted clinical electro-therapeutic modalities have an enhanced healing effect.

24. Dr. Pappas discovered that a weak pulsed-magnetic field, hundreds of times faster than has ever been used before, applied for a millionth of a second and within a frequency spectrum never before used with medical devices, were more efficient and far-reaching therapeutically. It could accomplish much more in a few minutes than could the stronger magnetic induction devices, which required days or weeks to accomplish the same effect.

25. The PAP Ion Magnetic Induction device is designed to induce and restore the missing ionic charge in order for the cells to overcome problems within the system. The cells are enhanced into more energetic anabolic internal states by ATP composition. With extended pulse exposure, weak cell membranes of harmful microorganisms and the membrane of mutating cells appear to rupture.

With an abundance of internal energy, or bio-energy, the cell overcomes the electrical deficit and is then able to maintain the balance of the ionic concentration, the proper trans-membrane potential and efficient function of the sodium-potassium pump. The pulses seem to provide the necessary internal energy to the system without the damaging affect of heat by stimulating an electrical current, which triggers numerous chemical reactions that may allow particular atoms to participate in latent complex chemical reactions that would not otherwise occur due to the lack of proper energy. Thus, the PAP-IMI offers the necessary internal energy to initiate, or catalyze dormant chemical reactions to speed up chemical synthesis in a malfunctioning biological system, thus, enhancing the natural anabolic activity, which boosts the immune system, creating order out of disorder via the innate intelligent action of the re-energized living system.

28. Another great effect of the PAP IMI is the apparent increase in porosity of the cell membrane. The cells then have a greater ability to exchange materials with the environment.

29. With all the above beneficial effects, the immune system is greatly enhanced of both human and animal bodies. The above hypothesis explains how the ultra fast pulses can apparently extinguish degenerate cells and microorganisms that cause various infectious inflammatory conditions.

Effect on General Injuries


30. In short, the IMI, is capable of raising the TMP of sick or damaged cells to a normal range, thus restoring their bio-energy, facilitating the exchange of potassium and sodium ions via the Na/K pump mechanism, restoring their normal production rate of ATP, which fuels the entire process. Normal healthy cells are not adversely affected by the IMI because, as in recharging any battery, the battery like membrane of living cells will not accept an overcharge.

31. The electrons drawn to the inner membrane by elevating the TMP increase the ionic charge within the interior of the cell. This raises the internal degrees of freedom at a molecular level, catalyzing dormant biochemical reactions that would not otherwise proceed as quickly due to lack of available energy. Entropy (disorganization of the cell) is reduced and the cell's metabolic rate is increased, enabling the cells to heal it self and attain an optimal balance.
